MATCH PREVIEW / Thanet Challenge Cup
Thanet Challenge Cup
Margate face rivals Ramsgate on Saturday at Hartsdown Park for the Thanet Challenge Cup in what is both sides final pre-season fixture before their respective league seasons start next Saturday.
The fixture which is usually contested at a high intensity will prove to be a good final test for both sides ahead of their Bostik campaigns.
Margate fans will have disappointing memories of last seasons encounter at Southwood as despite a late Blues comeback, an ACL injury to Margate striker Alex Flisher cost the Blues their talisman for the whole season.
Flisher won’t be available this time around after sustaining a freak injury in the clubs 5-0 drubbing of Canterbury last week which will keep the former Maidstone star sidelined for a further six weeks.
The Blues will be looking for a positive 90 minutes after a physically tough pre season which continued on Tuesday night with a 1-0 defeat to Thamesmead Town.
Ramsgate, now managed by former Blues striker Lloyd Blackman are in good shape ahead of the new season and despite losing Alfie Paxman to Folkestone over the summer, Blackman has assembled a squad that could challenge in the newly formed Bostik South East division.
The winners of the 90 minute game will be crowned the Thanet Challenge Cup winners.
Kick off at Hartsdown Park is 3pm.
