Greenhalgh: "We Have To Bounce Back"

Margate joint manager Ben Greenhalgh says there “has to be a bounce back” from the squad after Boxing Day’s 3-0 defeat at home to Cray Wanderers.

Greenhalgh and Reece Prestedge will take charge of the Blues on Bank Holiday Monday away at Folkestone after the club separated ties with former Manager Andy Drury last week.

“We have to bounce back. We have had two really good training sessions which is quite difficult in the week between Christmas and New Year for a Non-League side.”

“We have a good buzz in the dressing room and we want to earn the supporters respect with a good performance and hopefully some points against Folkestone.”

The Blues head to Invicta having lost two games on the bounce and Greenhalgh recognises it will be a tough afternoon, but hopes they can bounce back.

“Folkestone away is always going to be a tough game, especially missing both Sam Blackman and Peter Ojemen through suspension. We will have Ade (Cole) back which will be really important for us.”

“We showed last year that we can win there but it was a really tough game and we are expecting the same on Monday.”

Greenhalgh has been impressed with five youth players that have been training with the squad this week, and the joint manager says they will be part of the Matchday squad moving forward.

“There are five lads that have played for the U18’s and Academy this year that we want around the first team squad in training and on matchday’s. I remember when I was a young kid at Welling and being involved meant everything to me and Reece and I want to be able to do that for these lads.”

Monday will see the Blues take to the field for the first time in 2023 and Greenhalgh hopes it can be the start of repairing some relationships at the Club.

“I just want to see us all move forward as one. Whether there have been issues between the players and fans or fans and the Board I just want to see us all move forward as one club and hopefully have a really successful 2023.”

“It isn’t always easy as there is so much that goes on behind the scenes that fans don’t always see, but I believe we can all push forward together and have a good year.”
