After winning the Sid Burvill Trophy against Folkestone, we caught up with Ross Craig, to see how he has settled at Margate so far!

With the season now just over a week away, Craig can’t wait to get underway and start playing competitive games! “I’m buzzing for this season, I just want to push on from the last couple of years I’ve had in non-league, and now I’m at a club that I can do that, we play the right way, a big club with great fans, that’s all you want as a footballer!”

Rossi, as he is known by his teammates, had a good season at step four last year and became highly sought after and we asked what his aims are on a personal note for this campaign. “This year I probably want to try and get a bit more forward, get a few more assists than last season and just contribute to the attacking side of the game, and as a team, just give my all and see if we can really do something special this year!”

With just one game of pre-season remaining against Westfield, The ‘Gate players have had time to gel with each other, so we asked the left-back how the team are bonding behind the dressing room door. “I’ve settled in really well, started a bit slow for me personally as I had a holiday to go to, but since I’ve been back, I’ve really gelled well with everyone and made good relationships with players in the team!”

As a left-back, Craig has had Jordon Ababio in front of him so far during pre-season and we asked him what it’s like to play with such a talented winger. “Yeah, Jordon is electric when he gets the ball, we’ve just got to try and get him the ball as much as possible, which we didn’t really do today but I’m just there to support him, give him an overlapping option and distract the defenders which will create space for him to work his magic!”

Our first game we play against East Grinstead Town at home, and Ross has a message for the supporters as we creep closer to the start of the 2024/25 season! “Stick with us, keep bringing your voices to every game and we’ll do something special this year. I can’t wait to play for you and make you proud on the pitch during the season!”

Ross Craig is still available to be sponsored for the upcoming season, so if you wish to sponsor him, email Chris Carter at Chris.carter@margate-fc.com or call 01843 221769
