U23's Win Big At Hartsdown Park
Margate U23’s recorded their biggest win of the season with an emphatic 8-0 victory over Larkfield & Hythe FC U23 at Hartsdown Park last Friday evening.
The ‘Gate started with their high intensity press and were rewarded early, as a great run and cross from Fabian De Oliveira found Reece Greig whose quick turn and shot opened the scoring on 11 mins.
De Oliviera was instrumental again after some fine interchanging passes between Handley, Tyler Lee and Fabian ended with a fine save from the opposition ‘keeper.
On 34 mins Greig’s strong positive run was brought to a halt with a free kick awarded on the edge of the penalty area. Loui Mirza stepped up and his shot went in off the crossbar for the second.
Margate were in complete control of the game now with more shots from Chidu, Handley & Grieg.
On 44 mins a perfectly weighted pass from left back Connor Wardle found Iman Alam who’s quick feet was too much for the defender who fouled him in the box and Mirza stepped up to convert the penalty, his second and a deserved 3-0 halftime lead.
Margate started the second half with no let up and created many more chances from Kodie Bristow, Fabian, Chidu and Grieg.
It was Grieg who scored his second and The ‘Gate’s fourth on 65 mins after a neat one two between Mattas Kabelis and Bristow.
Defender Nathan Geddes grabbed another brace with a swerving shot then an unstoppable run and shot that flew into the top right hand corner.
The introduction of U18 players Baileigh Bellem and Fin Saunders along with Jamie Summers gave no respite for Larkfield and it was two quick goals from Bellem on 86 and 88 mins that finally sealed the 8-0 victory after two fine crosses from Fin Saunders.
Post match interview from coach Paul Meade
“The boys showed a very professional and disciplined attitude from start to finish tonight. When you score so many goals it’s easy to lose focus and mistakes can creep in to your game. This was not the case and we had very impressive debuts for U18 players Baileigh Bellem & Fin Saunders showing the clear pathway into the U23s from the youth section.”
