Herne Bay (A) - 29th October 2024

By Josh Cole

Time for a break from league action as we turn our attention to the Kent Senior Cup second round, away at Herne Bay!

Last time out we beat Eastbourne Town, convincingly, 4-0 at home! Read the match report from that game by clicking here.

A quarter-final place is at stake for both teams in this match, with the winner facing an away game against Tonbridge Angels or Beckenham Town.

OPPONENTS SEASON SO FAR:

In the league, it has been a disappointing season so far for The Bay, sitting in 13th place, with 13 points from nine games. Their season started with a win in the league, 2-3 away at Littlehampton, Then they required a replay to get past Rayners Lane and into the first qualifying round of the FA Cup. Herne Bay travelled to Hartsdown Park next and managed to weather the storm and draw 0-0. They progressed past Ashford Town in the FA Cup first qualifying round and beat Northwood in the FA Trophy first qualifying round, making it six unbeaten to start 2024/25 in all competitions. That would be stopped by Hythe in the league, as they lost 2-1. It didn’t hamper their FA Cup form however as they beat Hendon 3-0 to set up a juicy tie at home to Maidstone. After being knocked out of the Velocity cup by Sheppey on penalties, The Bay won their next two matches, 3-0 against Three Bridges in the FA Trophy second qualifying round and 5-1 against Erith Town in the Kent Senior Cup first round. Then came the game against Maidstone, where despite putting up a fight, they lost 0-1. Back-to-back cup exits for Herne Bay as they lost 2-0 away to Chichester in the FA Trophy third qualifying round. After almost a month without playing a league game, they finally played six league games all in a row, winning three and losing three, cementing their place in midfield for now.

KENT SENIOR CUP JOURNEYS:

Herne Bay played at home in their first-round tie against Erith Town and won 5-1 thanks to goals from Frankie Smith, Artem Kuchkov, Kane Rowland x2, and Monty Saunders. Margate on the other hand had a much more difficult test, away to local rivals, Ramsgate.
