MATCH REPORT / Bluebirds Extend Winning Run
Bluebirds Extend Winning Run
By Evan Paris
After last week's victory away at Maidstone the ladies were back at home this Sunday hosting Aylesford Ladies 2nds at HDP.
The match started in an all too familiar way, as the Gate conceded inside the opening three minutes for the second time in two weeks, giving the visitors hope of upsetting the League Leaders.
Going behind didn't phase The Blues as they quickly settled into their rhythm and started to create chances at the right end of the pitch, eventually levelling mid-way through the half thanks to a Kara Richardson strike.
It was Richardson who put the gate in front with a close range header on forty minutes. Substitute Ashleigh Brookes extended the lead just before the break with a smart finish from a tight angle as Margate went in at half time leading 3-1.
The second half was dominated by the home team and went further ahead as Brookes volleyed home from the edge of the area giving the keeper no chance.
As the visitors tired the flow of the game was continuously interrupted as the ref blew up for a succession of fouls along with a couple of injuries but there was still time for The Blues to add to their tally. As Brookes was tusseled to the floor in the area, the ref rightley pointed to the spot. Skipper Becks Slevin stepped up and slotted into the bottom corner giving the ladies a 5-1 victory at full time.
Next up for the Gate is.....
- Aylesford Away (01/11/20)
- Cray Valley Home (08/11/20)
- Tunbridge Wells Home (15/11/20)
