MATCH PREVIEW / Cheshunt (A) - 26th March 2024
Cheshunt (A) - 26th March 2024
By Josh Cole
A must win game for the ‘Gate as we take on Cheshunt on Tuesday night looking to claw back that ten-point gap to safety!
Last time out on Non-League Day we held Enfield Town to a 1-1 draw with ten men. Read the match report from that game by clicking here.
OPPONENTS SEASON SO FAR:
Coming down from the league above, Cheshunt had a mediocre start to the season with one draw, two losses and a win against us at Hartsdown Park 1-2. Inconsistent form has been a massive part of The Ambers season as two losses followed their win at HDP before they beat Bognor at home 3-1. A loss to Cray Wanderers and a win against Dulwich in their next two games cemented Cheshunt in the lower half of midtable. A winless run of five games came next (three losses and two draws) including a 0-6 drubbing at home to Hornchurch put Cheshunt on the backfoot. A crucial 5-4 win against fellow strugglers Kingstonian gave them some hope, and they continued to push on with a 1-1 draw against Hashtag and a 1-4 away win vs Carshalton Athletic. Since that win, they have lost their next five games in the league. They broke that losing streak with a home win against Whitehawk but went straight back to losing three games in a row before drawing away to Bognor Regis. Two more losses followed the draw before another point gained away at Kingstonian. They finally got their first win since the 27th January as they beat fellow relegation candidates Concord Rangers 0-3 away. They couldn’t go back-to-back wins against fellow relegation strugglers Haringey Borough as the Ambers lost away 1-0. In a crucial run of fixtures as the battle for survival reaches it’s climax, Cheshunt are hitting form at the right time. Three wins on the spin against Concord, Folkestone and Carshalton sees the Ambers pull a ten-point gap on the ‘Gate further solidifying their status in this division next season.

HEAD-TO-HEAD:
The Ambers have the slight upper hand in the head-to-head record with five matches between the two teams. Cheshunt have won two, which includes their away win earlier in the season, we have won once back in 2019 and two draws finish the encounters. Having lost to Cheshunt earlier on, Margate will be looking to split the series this season and will be out to avenge that loss at Hartsdown Park with a win at Theobalds Lane and start to claw back that ten-point deficit to safety.
