CLUB NEWS / Gate Kick Start Campaign With Win
Margate started their 2021/22 season in perfect fashion as they earnt three points on the opening day thanks to a Ben Greenhalgh strike in the first half against Wingate & Finchley at the Maurice Rebak stadium.
Manager Jay Saunders introduced his three new signings from Friday with Pat Ohman in goal and Joe Anderson at full back whilst Vance Bola made his first competitive start in attack for the Blues.
Margate started the game in a positive mood with Bola looking to use his pace to unlock the Finchley defence, however there initially seemed no way through for the Blues until the 31st minute when Bola raced through the hosts backline before sliding the ball across to Greenhalgh who calmly guided the ball home to give the ‘Gate a 1-0 lead at the break.
As much possession as the Gate had in the first half, the second half very much saw Wingate take the game to the visitors, with the Margate backline soaking up any pressure that the hosts were throwing at them.
Whilst relatively untroubled, much praise must go to the backline and Ohman in the ‘Gate goal for a well-deserved clean sheet as the Blues started the campaign with a valuable three points.
