Ladies Defeated By League Leaders

Margate Ladies fell to a 2-0 home defeat to League leaders Dartford Development at Hartsdown Park on Sunday afternoon.

Margate started strong with the team making some early presses on the Dartford defence and teasing the opportunity of an early goal. Good possession and confidence on the ball made for an exciting watch as Margate looked dominant throughout the first half.

The first half remained goalless as both teams tussled for possession and attempted on goal. High tensions and panicked pressure saw Galloway receive a yellow card for a late challenge.

An injury to Darts Winger, Jade Baldwin saw her stretchered off and extending the first half to some 52 minutes in length. Having previously lost to Dartford away back in January, a couple of strong saves by keeper Lauren Montgomery had kept the ‘Gate their clean sheet as the players headed in for half-time.

Dartford came out of the blocks in the second half by moving the ball fast and confident with Beatrice Ogundele firing one in the back of the net inside the first five minutes of the second half to give the Darts a 1-0 lead over the home side.

Not long after this Ogundele scored a second, taking The Darts lead to two goals.

Margate Ladies remained calm and composed and continued to push high into the opposition half, again teasing fans with an opportunity of a goal. A free kick taken by Nicole Adams around the 25-yard mark tested the keeper who made a fantastic fingertip save. The rebound was headed by substitution JJ Speller who hit the crossbar with her effort.

Angel Foster made her debut for Margate in the 70' minute, slotting into the defensive midfield and strengthening the centre and supporting the defence. Foster placed some strong tackles and held up play for The Gate as Dartford continued to attempt to push forward on goal.

Margate Ladies return to action against Meridian on 26th February 2023 at Hartsdown Park.
