Three Points On The Road For Blues
Margate overcome a stern test against Corinthian Casuals on Tuesday evening as a Ben Greenhalgh penalty in the second half secured a much needed three points for the ‘Gate, in a game that took place at the home of Leatherhead FC after storm damage to Casuals home forced them into hosting elsewhere.
It was the hosts, who had made a managerial change just 24 hours before the game that started slightly on top with striker Erald Desa rising highest in the box but heading over.
The ‘Gate felt they should have been awarded a penalty in the 24th minute as Eddie Dsane appeared to have been wiped out in the box, however the referee waived play on and Margate were left incensed at the decision as it remained 0-0.
The hosts were certainly putting Margate to the test, however the ‘Gate were showing glimpses themselves of how dangerous they can be as Greenhalgh spread a beautiful ball out to Taylor Fisher whose low cross was drilled just inches wide by Cameron Brodie.
There was to be a late chance in the first half as again Desa weaved in and out of the Blues defence before seeing his low shot superbly diverted away for a corner.
Margate knew they needed an early goal in the second half and they got exactly that as the referee could not ignore Korrey Henry being bundled over in the box and awarding the Blues a penalty which was calmly dispatched by Captain Greenhalgh to give the ‘Gate the advantage.
The ‘Gate should have put the game to bed in the 61st minute as Henry first saw a shot well saved before he somehow managed to skew the rebound over the bar from a few yards out as Margate looked to increase their advantage.
That miss almost come back to haunt the Blues as Casuals whipped a ball into the box which somehow bounced off the bar, before falling to an on-rushing player whose fierce shot was incredibly cleared off the line as Margate fans and players alike breathed a sigh of relief.
The Casuals pushed on without troubling Jinadu in goal and the ‘Gate held on for an important three points that moves them up to 12th in the Isthmian Premier League.
