Noel Leighton: "Performance was frustrating"
Margate striker Noel Leighton admits that the Blues needed to be better against Corinthian Casuals in their 2-2 draw on Saturday in the BetVictor Isthmian Premier League.
Leighton struck twice to salvage a point for Jay Saunders side, however he feels the performance should have been better from him and his team mates.
“We tried to do the right things but the first half we weren’t good enough, especially myself and the attacking areas of the pitch. It has been the story of our season so far where we have scored a few goals but been leaking them in as well but we need to work on the offensive and defensive areas of our game and keep striving for more”.
Inconsistency has been a keyword used in Margate’s recent form and Leighton says it is frustrating that the recent form has been so up and down.
“As a team and even myself we just haven’t got a run of form. It is even more frustrating when you look at it we have one of the best squads in the league we can’t seem to string a run of results together and teams play against us probably know that we are going to give them a dew goals.”
“We don’t seem to get goals given to us and that isn’t a dig at the defence it comes across the whole pitch. We need to crack on and start looking ahead to next season and see where we go from there”.
After suffering successive defeats to Enfield Town and Merstham the Blues were looking for three points to end the run of losses and Leighton believes that frustration is the overriding feeling within the squad at the minute after Saturdays draw.
“Frustration is the overriding feeling with in the squad at the moment especially as we feel that we are better than what we are being portrayed in the league table. We should have taken nine points from the last three games”.
“Last year we managed to win nine games in a row and almost made the play-offs and I know we didn’t get there in the end but we need to try and recreate that this season and then who knows what might happen in this league but we need to get back to winning games”.
