Billericay Town (A) - 8th October 2022

By Josh Cole

The ‘Gate travel to Essex to take on Billericay Town at the AGP Arena, in the Third Qualifying Round of the Isuzu FA Trophy on Saturday afternoon.

Last time out Margate secured a point in the lasts gasp of the game against Haringey Borough under the lights at Hartsdown Park. The visitors took the lead in the 7th minute through Rakim Richards, who managed to get a free header at the front post from a corner. The 'Gate were back level in the 16th minute through Ben Greenhalgh, assisted by Korrey Henry. The Haringey defence were caught sleeping, Hatfull took a quick throw, Henry was allowed to turn and lay it off to Ben Greenhalgh who fired into the top corner. The next goal would come in the 69th minute through Matthew Young, when he controlled a beautiful volley which fired into the bottom corner. Things would go from bad to worse as Margate conceded two minutes later when Scott Durojaiye tapped home a loose ball after Tangara parried Kennedy’s shot from outside the box. Four minutes after Haringey made their advantage 3-1, Margate pulled a goal back through Korrey Henry with a front post header from a corner. Margate rescued a point in the 93rd minute of play as Cameron Brodie headed home a Ben Greenhalgh cross to secure a point for the Blues.

Margate will be without Taylor Fisher (ankle), Troy Howard (ankle) and Cameron Brodie (cup tied) for the trip to Billericay. Manager Andy Drury could hand a debut to new ‘Gate ‘keeper Dan Jinadu after he signed on dual registration on Friday from Dartford FC.

This result leaves Margate in 15th place on nine points from nine games, with two wins, three draws and four losses. Our opponents, Billericay, sit 13th one point ahead with three wins, one draw, and four losses but with one game in hand on the Blues.

Last year in the Isuzu FA Trophy, Margate were knocked out in round one by Needham Market 3-2, after beating Beaconsfield Town 2-0 in the third qualifying round.
