Collin Leads Fightback But Flisher Injury Overshadows Ramsgate Draw

With minutes remaining Flisher fell to the floor clutching his knee unchallenged and left the field on a stretcher as the Club await further news to extent of the damage to the Clubs new striker who only joined this Summer from Maidstone United.

It was a topsy turvy evening for Manager Steve Watt who would have been disappointed to see his side fall behind as they did but equally as pleased to see them fight back from 3-1 down to earn a draw against an organised Ramsgate side.

It was the hosts who raced out of the blocks as Rory Smith found Tom Chapman who curled a superb effort over the helpless Lenny Pidgeley in goal to give the Rams a 1-0 lead.

That lead was doubled on 13 minutes as Smith tapped home from six yards from a ball to the right as the hosts looked like inflicting a damaging end to Margate’s pre-season campaign. On 17 minutes Margate thought they had a goal themselves as Flisher drove home from an angle but it was adjudged that Collin had tapped the ball home from an offside decision.

The visitors did get back into the game on 25 minutes as they were awarded a penalty thanks to a hand ball in the box and the spot kick was calmly slotted home by Collin for his first of the evening.

Ramsgate hit back straight away though and added a third on 28 minutes as Alfie Paxman slotted home another cross from the right to send the Rams in at half-time with a 3-1 advantage.

The second half started with both sides creating very few chances until the 74th minute as Collin latched on to a long Flisher throw in to turn and reduce the arrears to 3-2 with fifteen minutes left to play.

The Blues equalised in the 90th minute as Tom Wynter rose highest in the Ramsgate box from a Dave Martin free kick to head the visitor’s level and send the game to penalties.

With just seconds remaining though Margate’s new number nine fell awkwardly unchallenged and after receiving treatment on the field for ten minutes was stretchered off with an agreement from both sets of teams that the game would finish 3-3 and the WW Martin Thanet Cup would be shared for the 2017/18 season.

Margate FC still awaits further news to the extent of the injury sustained by Flisher but everyone at the club wishes him a speedy recovery.
