INTERVIEW / Swift Calls For Improvement
Swift Calls For Improvement
By Ryan Day
Margate Defender Ben Swift admits it will be a long end to the season unless Margate improve their form soon, after the Blues fell to a 3-0 defeat to Enfield Town at Hartsdown Park on Tuesday evening.
Three second half goals from the visitors condemned Margate to a defeat which leaves them 12th in the BetVictor Isthmian Premier League and still needing consistency having not won more than two games in a row since September 2019.
“It will be a long end to the season if we don’t change our results as soon as possible. Everybody is down at the moment but then if we win again on Saturday then everyone is on a high”.
“I don’t think we struggled tonight necessarily as at half-rime at 0-0 I thought we were doing ok and second half we started ok and if we took our chances then it is a difficult game. But as soon as we let one in, we panic. One goal leads to two and two becomes three and then it is a mountain to climb”.
Swift acknowledges that with consistency comes enjoyment and he is hoping the Blues can string a run of results together so that they can start enjoying their football again.
“We don’t want to keep winning one and then losing one. We want to get a run going and then start enjoying our football again. We don’t want our season to just fizzle out obviously, we want to win as many games as we can”.
“15 points off the play-offs now so that is a big climb but we have to put that to the side and just focus on getting some wins in a row”.
Margate hit the road this Saturday as they face Merstham and Swift is expecting his side to put things right after Tuesday nights defeat.
“We are doing alright away from home, we have a nice run of games coming up so a win on Tuesday would have put us in the mix as Merstham are beatable and after winning on Saturday, losing tonight has just killed us but now we have to get three points Saturday and move on”.
