Poku: "We Need To Stay Positive"

By David Hansen

Midfielder Godfrey Poku says the result against Hastings United was “very disappointing” as the visitors claimed a 2-1 win at Hartsdown Park on Tuesday Evening.

“I have no words to describe it, it was a very poor first half, but I thought we started the second half well grabbing the goal but when they scored, we absolutely capitulated.”

Poku said as one of the senior players at the club he must “keep positive” and try and “lift the boys.”

“As one of the senior players in the team I've got to keep positive and try and lift the boys now and try to move on. The boys felt positive before the game, but the outcome isn't what we wanted.”

Poku says the side were unable to deal with the Hastings long throws and said we had to “deal” with the long throws better.

“We knew they were going to throw the long throw; we just have to deal with it, whoever it is, we just must stand up strong and deal with those long throws. After that they gained confidence and managed to grab another goal and then we struggled to get back in the game.”

When asked about having no fixture this weekend and whether it was a good time to rejuvenate the morale in the squad, Poku said how morale “isn’t bad.”

“Morale hasn’t been bad; it's been good especially after the win against Chatham and the draw against Hashtag, we all came into the game with a positive mind-set and were confident so it's just frustrating, but we can’t hang onto this, and we have to move on quickly.”

Poku was asked about potentially having a run in the Velocity Trophy, starting this Wednesday as Margate Play Whitehawk at the Enclosed Ground and insists that “we have to win.”

“Simple as, we must win. We don’t care what cup it is we need to win to get that confidence growing, so on Wednesday we will be going to win. Of course, it's nice to win a trophy so we must move on into that game and put in a better performance.”

Margate return to action on Wednesday evening as they travel to Whitehawk in the Third Round of the Velocity Trophy.
