Margate Ladies moved into third in the table after a convincing 7-0 win at Hartsdown Park against Herne Bay Reserves.

Both teams started with determination and drive to take maximum points which were crucial to both sides in their respective league campaigns. Herne Bay Reserves were no doubt keen to get themselves out of the relegation zone and despite the result put on a solid performance.

Building on last week’s success, the 'Gate played with a narrow formation, flooding the middle of the park and holding the majority of possession. Despite a powerful performance and a number of shots from the home side, the game remained goalless until the 35th minute mark.

Nicole Adams scored the first goal for the Blues slotting the ball past the keeper into the bottom corner to make it 1-0.

Just eight minutes later, Chapman scored against her old club converting from the penalty spot.

Three minutes into stoppage time and Adams scored her second goal, almost replicating her first and placing the ball nicely in the bottom corner.

The 'Gate stepped out into the second half looking confident and motivated as they hoped to capitalise on their lead. Seven minutes into second half, Barton took a powerful strike from the left hand side, curling the ball past multiple players and into the top right hand corner.

The 'Gate now had the lead comfortably and good game management by the players gave them opportunity to conserve energy and see the game out but this didn't stop the sides drive to score more.

Hungry for goals, Skipper Becca Slevin scored in the 65th minute, putting the ball in the top corner after defeating several defenders in the box.

In the 66th minute, Chapman scored her second goal after an assist from Mongomery in goal saw her through on goal and one on one with the keeper. A foul from the opposition side saw a penalty awarded to The 'Gate late in the game. Greetham placed the ball nicely in the back of the net bringing the homes sides goal tally to an incredible seven goals.

With ten minutes remaining Herne Bay continued to fight, putting balls through to their pacey wingers, however Margate defended resolutely.

A superb team performance now sees the side in 3rd place and just two points from 2nd with a goal difference of +32 goals.

The 'Gate will now see the remainder of their league campaign away from home, starting next week as they travel to Borough Green at Potters Mede with kick-off at 2pm.
