Gate Complete Comeback At HDP
Margate fought back from a goal down to extend their unbeaten start to the season at Hartsdown Park as they overcome Enfield Town 2-1 on Saturday.
Manager Jay Saunders was without striker Daniel Thompson as Vance Bola and Jake Embery led the line, whilst young full back George Lamb was given his full league debut at the age of just 17.
The hosts started well as James Bessey-Saldanha and Ben Greenhalgh forced early saves as Margate looked to bounce back from their Emirates FA Cup defeat last Saturday. Margate continued to cause problems as Vance Bola forced another save.
Manny Maja forced a save from Pat Ohman before Bessey-Saldanha almost gave the ‘Gate a half-time lead, only to see his effort go wide.
The second half started at a frantic pace as Sam Youngs forced a fine save from Ohman before Embery was well found by Montel Agyemang, but he was unable to control the ball as he looked set to shoot.
The Blues were dealt a sucker punch in the 55th minute as Mo Faal collected the ball before seeing his driven shot deflect off a Blues defender and looping over the ‘Gate goalkeeper.
The Blues were behind for just three minutes though as Agyemang saw a fierce shot saved, but only to the feet of Ben Greenhalgh who tucked the ball home to get the ‘Gate level and deservedly so.
The Blues were in the ascendency as Greenhalgh cut in from the left before seeing his shot clip the crossbar and over. Margate were stepping up their attacking threat as Greenhalgh somehow skewed an effort wide as it looked that he was about to put the home side in front.
Margate were not to be withheld though as they netted a 90th minute winner as Ryan Palmer superbly sent in a deep cross which was prodded home by Godo to spark wild celebrations and maintain Margate’s unbeaten start to the season at Hartsdown Park.
