Greenhalgh: "We Have To Improve"
By Jack Waters
Margate Captain Ben Greenhalgh says the Blues were “not good enough” away at Brightlingsea Regent last week, but will aim to put things right when they face Horsham at Hartsdown Park on Friday night.
The Blues were beaten by Brightlingsea Regent 2-1, and despite a spirited last 20 minutes, the Blues performance in the opening 70 minutes cost them.
“We can’t afford to be playing that bad for 70 minutes and being 2-0 down this season against any opposition. Brightlingsea managed the game when they were 2-0 up and we have to do better than that, simply put we wasn’t good enough”.
Horsham are the visitors to Hartsdown Park tonight (Friday) and Greenhalgh admits the ‘Gate are going to have to raise their game “massively” if they want to get anything out of the game.
“We worked hard at training and we got into each other in the changing room about how we need to be better. We must raise our game against Horsham to ensure we get something from the game”.
The new Captain admits that the Velocity Trophy defeat is still in the minds of himself and the players that were Hartsdown Park last season, however he believes that Friday will provide the perfect opportunity to put things right.
“We all remember last season our defeat in the Velocity Trophy and we want to put that right for the fans, but Horsham are a very good unit”.
“They had a difficult start last season but they ended well and also have started strongly this season so it will be a tough test”.
The skipper added, “We are a new team so like we saw last Saturday we can be inconsistent so we need to improve on that.
Friday night under the lights at Hartsdown Park will the give the squad the chance to continue our decent home form that the Club have forged over the past 12 months.
“I have been very proud of our record at home over the last 12 months. We want to continue that. At home last season we were good and away we were poor. We have identified this year we want to maintain our strong home form and improve on those performances away from home, which is where we let ourselves down last week”.
Ben Greenhalgh is sponsored this season by Paul Newsome both Home and Away.
