The Blues fell behind in the second minute as a long ball over the top was raced onto and lobbed home.
The first half was ended prematurely as an Erith player left the field on a stretcher with a suspected broken ankle. We wish him all the best with his recovery.
The second half started with Margate having more possession, however the ‘Gate fell 2-0 down as Steadman Calendar prodded home a second for the visitors.
Margate continued to dominate with the ball and worked hard to break down a resolute Erith defence. It was a delightful free kick from Ben Greenhalgh that unlocked the defence.
The hosts continued to press but couldn’t find an equaliser. The Blues now face two games away in a week, starting with a trip to Whitstable Town on Tuesday evening before the Thanet Cup away at Ramsgate on Saturday.
