INTERVIEW / In Conversation: Brandon Davey
In Conversation: Brandon Davey
By Josh Cole
I caught up with new midfielder, Brandon Davey, to see how he is settling at his new home!
After impressing at Corinthian especially in the last two years, Brandon is “excited” to get going at Hartsdown Park. “I’m excited, it’s a new challenge for me, Ben has put his trust in me, and I do think I’m thriving and I’m enjoying myself so far with this group of players and the fans!”
Davey has a lot of experience at just 21 years of age, appearing over 100 times for Corinthians already, and this knowledge of non-league football is invaluable. “I think I made the right choice as Ben asked me to join Margate last year, but I felt I needed that, at my age, I need to get the games under my belt and Corinthian really helped me out with that and in the summer, I felt I was ready for a new challenge and to really push myself and progress through the leagues!”
Having a positive relationship with the ‘gaffer’ is important, and Brandon certainly has that by being coached at the Dartford academy under Ben for three years. “I have a good relationship with Ben. He coached me at Dartford’s academy for three years, the trust goes both ways, I know he’s got good knowledge of the game and that has helped me excel so far and I’m just glad he has given me this opportunity at such a big club!”
Five pre-season games in, and the midfielder has really settled in well, which has translated onto the pitch so far. “I’m settling in very well, coming in, all the players are new to me, so I didn’t know who to talk to, who to be with but throughout pre-season everyone has got closer and I think the performances on the pitch are really showing and we are setting up for an exciting season!”
Establishing a connection with the fans at any club is key for a player to succeed, and so far Brandon feels right at home at Hartsdown Park, and he has a message for you all: “The support has been unreal, especially as it is only pre-season, I didn’t expect this amount of love with people greeting you and having conversations, it’s been really nice to be welcomed into the club and I just hope we can push on this season and make you guys proud to be wearing Blue in the stands and in the town!”
Davey’s home shirt is sponsored by Sam Dixon, but his away shirt is still available so if you want to sponsor Brandon contact Chris Carter at: Chris.carter@margate-fc.com
