Convincing Margate U23's Shine In Carshalton
Report by Paul Meade
The U23’s first of two games in 48 hours couldn’t have got off to a better start with a convincing 3-0 away win at Carshalton Athletic.
Despite starting with a high tempo and dominating large parts of the first half it wasn’t until the 38th minute that the deadlock was broken. After some intricate passing and link up play between Wes Henessey and George Hunt, it was Hunt’s cross that was drilled into the bottom corner by Zak Jobe.
It was Jobe again three minutes’ later who came close again drifting in from the right this time curling a left footed shot towards the top corner but somehow the Carshalton keeper, who was also only 16, manage to tip it over the bar.
There were still chances being created with shots by Mouad, Belsey and captain Jack Miller but all saved by the in-form keeper.
Carshalton started much sharper in the second half after making a double substitution but found defensive trio of Nathan Geddes, Robson Hulks and Luca Radejevic all equal to the task and solid in their roles along with keeper Kye Davidson.
Margate quickly were able to stamp their authority back on the game and a fantastic 62nd minute run and cross from Louie Procopi found Mouad unmarked at the far post with a great first time volley to double the lead.
This goal spurred on the young gate side and allowed for Louie Mirza and Leo Moore to be introduced from the subs bench. Both made an immediate impact and played a part in the third and final goal. A short pass from Moore was met by Geddes and his determined aggressive run towards the box was unselfishly squared to Hennessy who slotted into an empty net in the 82nd minute to seal a satisfying victory.
The U23’s now travels to second placed Hastings on Wednesday evening.
