Gate Knocked Out By Moatsiders
Margate were knocked out of The Emirates FA Cup after two second half goals in the space of six minutes proved to be The Gate's undoing.
After a close opening twenty minutes, the hosts capitalised upon a mistake at the back to go ahead. Makofo latched on to the gift and calmly put the ball past Patrick Ohran to open the scoring. Margate looked to respond and were creating problem courtesy of James Bessey-Saldanha but it took something rather spectacular to draw Margate level before the break.
August's Player of the Month, Montel Agyemang picked up possession in the Gate half before driving forward towards goal, crafting himself enough time and space to pick out his spot and make it 1-1. With a minute to go until the break, this was a perfect time for Maragate to re-group for the second period.
However, it was The Moatsiders who responded to the half-time team talk and their hard work brought about a slice on luck as the clock was ticking towards the hour mark. Tahjee Anderson's tricky crossed alluded everyone and went into the back ot the net.
Merstham doubled their lead minutes later when Reyon Dillon switched feet to drill the ball beyond Ohran.
Margate sought to decrease the deficit but in pursuing the game, conceded another in the final give minutes when Adjei-Hersey produced a curling finish from 20 yards.
A very disappointing day in the office saw The Gate rue their opportunity to progress in the Emirates FA Cup in its 150th year and Margate's 125th.
