Richards Relishing New Season

By Ryan Day

Margate Midfielder Jack Richards says there is “more to come” from him and his team mate’s after last weekend’s 1-0 away win at Wingate & Finchley.

Richards joined the club from Maidstone United but Coronavirus has impacted on his time at the club so far, coupled with a back injury throughout pre-season the attacking midfielder has been frustrated, but is now ready to kick on.

“It has been frustrating since joining with the pandemic and a couple of injuries but I feel good now and I am ready to kick on and hopefully assist the team to a positive league campaign”.

“I know Jay well, he is a great manager who always wants to succeed and when he told me about Margate I was keen to join and take the club to the next level”.

Coronavirus has disrupted non-league football more than any other level with two consecutive seasons having now been curtailed, however Richards hopes that it is now in the past and 2021/22 season can be fulfilled.

“It was tough because football is our livelihood so we were impacted financially and mentally. Football plays such a huge part in people’s lives so hopefully we can see the season through now and end up with some success at the end of it”.

Richards was an unused sub at Wingate & Finchley in the clubs opening day win but he was impressed with the performance from his team mates as the Blues earned their first three points of the campaign.

“The boys were brilliant at both ends of the pitch. We defended well and obviously it was great to see Ben (Greenhalgh) get on the scoresheet”.

“We know that as a group we can do well this season and we want to show that the supporters who were also great at Wingate last week”

Jack Richards is sponsored this season by Mr & Mrs Kallmeier (Home) and Terry Scott (Away).
