Hat-Trick Hero Olutade Gives

By Josh Cole

The ‘Gate pick up three points away at Holm Park after a 2-3 win against Sheppey United!

After a good 39 minutes, we took the lead through Ibrahim Olutade after the ball dropped to him in the box and he scored!

Margate went two goals up in the 55th minute again from Olutade as he headed home a Ben Greenhalgh cross!

Just six minutes later the game got nervy after Sheppey got one back through former ‘Gate player, Sinn’Kaye Christie.

However, Olutade would restore the Blues’ two goal lead after a wonderfully worked goal saw James Bessey-Saldanha find Ibz in the box for his hat-trick!

The Ites would make the end nervy, picking up a gaol in the 91st minute but The ’Gate hung on!

With Ben Greenhalgh’s side losing last Tuesday for the first time in the league, we looked to avenge that result with a win away against a good Sheppey side.

The first ten minutes were dominated by Margate, but didn’t provide any realhy scoring opportunities.

A crazy moment came in the 23rd minute when Tom Wray’s clearance hit Danny Leonard and the ball looked destined to fall back to the Sheppey captain, but the wind took it away from his grasp and Margate survived that scare.

Then the 29th minute called Harrison Hatfull into action as he cleared a low ball in, over the bar.

Controversy surrounded Holm Park in the 35th minute when Kai Garande played the ball down the left-hand side to Olutade, and the Margate striker got to the ball before the ‘keeper and he was wiped out.

The referee kept the red card in his pocket…

It wasn’t to stop The ‘Gate’s onslaught as just four minutes later we took the lead through Olutade as he clinically finished inside the box.

And it could’ve been two if it wasn’t for heroics from the Sheppey ‘keeper to deny Greenhalgh and Ibz from scoring.

Coming out of halftime it was a slow start to the half for both teams.

The first real chance was in the 55th minute, when we made it two. Ibz got his second after he headed home a Greenhalgh delivery.

Ibz almost turned provider to Greenhalgh just two minutes later, but Ben fired his shot over the bar.

Sheppey would pull one back in the 61st minute through Christie after a ball went all the way across the box to find the defender at the back post.

JBS came onto the field and within ten minutes, made a huge impact, assisting Ibz for his third after a wonderful Margate move.

After that third goal, Sheppey threw the kitchen sink at the Blues, but Margate held firm, only conceding one goal in the 91st minute.

A massive three points on the road against a good side who will be in and around the playoff hunt all season!
