Blues Beat Sheppey To Progress In KSC

Report by Jack Waters

Margate faced a young Sheppey United side in the Kent Senior Cup and made it four wins from four games in all competitions, the first time The Blues have done so in three seasons.

Manager Andy Drury rested key players after a tough period of games including Harry Hudson and Cameron Brodie, with Ashley Nzala coming back into the side and Harvey Smith finding himself grabbing an opportunity back at Hartsdown Park.

The Blues started the game brightly, from the first minute after Ben Greenhalgh’s strike just went over the bar, Margate kept pushing to find the first goal of the evening with constant pressure down the wings with Barton, Greenhalgh kept putting in good deliveries into the box, but Sheppey kept firm defensively.

Sheppey United had a very good chance in the 20th minute, with keeper Dan Jinadu making a great save from a one on one, with shortly after hitting the post from Sheppey’s Mclntyre.

Margate got back on top of the game, with Ashley Nzala running down the wing with frightening pace with great deliveries into the box, but Margate unfortunately not finding the final finish. Until the 43rd Minute, when skipper Ben Greenhalgh whipped in a perfect cross, with a powerful header by Peter Ojemen, rising the highest to put the Blues 1-0 ahead at Half Time.

The ‘Gate started the second half well, with Greenhalgh once again piling pressure onto Sheppey’s defence, with Harvey Smith directed a header goal wards, with a comfortable save from the Keeper. 3 minutes later, Ben Greenhalgh’s deflected shot flies into the top corner to put The Blues 2-0 up.

Margate were constantly on top in the second half, as the skipper grabs his second of the match, with a beautiful strike, driven hard into the right-hand corner, to make it a comfortable evening for the ‘Gate.

The last 15-20 minutes saw academy stars, Rory Sutcliffe and George Adams come onto the pitch and looked bright with constant threat going forward, with a lot of half chances created going into the end of the game.

As the clock ticked down, the Referee blew the whistle for Fulltime, with Margate booking themselves into the Quarter Finals of the Kent Senior Cup, with a convincing 3-0 win back at home.
