Cheshunt (A) - 16th January 2024

By Josh Cole

A massive game for both teams on Tuesday night, as we travel to take on Cheshunt at Theobalds Lane, who sit just one place below us in the table!

Last time out we couldn’t find a late winner against 10-men Concord at Hartsdown Park. Read the match report from that game by clicking here.

Margate will potentially travel to Hertfordshire without two influential players in Ben Greenhalgh (suspended) and Sam Blackman, who will take part in a fitness test after suffering a calf strain on Saturday.

OPPONENTS SEASON SO FAR:

As mentioned earlier, Cheshunt sit in 19th place, occupying the last spot in the relegation zone on 19 points from 22 games. Coming down from the league above, Cheshunt had a mediocre start to the season with one draw, two losses and a win against us at Hartsdown Park 1-2. Inconsistent form has been a massive part of The Ambers season as two losses followed their win at HDP before they beat Bognor at home 3-1. A loss to Cray Wanderers and a win against Dulwich in their next two games cemented Cheshunt in the lower half of midtable. A winless run of five games came next (three losses and two draws) including a 0-6 drubbing at home to Hornchurch put Cheshunt on the backfoot. A crucial 5-4 win against fellow strugglers Kingstonian gave them some hope, and they continued to push on with a 1-1 draw against Hashtag and a 1-4 away win vs Carshalton Athletic. Since that win, they have lost their last five games in the league with their last game being a 3-2 defeat away to Chatham Town.

In the home form table, Cheshunt are 19th with three wins, one draw and seven losses from 11 games at Theobalds Lane. Margate’s away form has been a problem all season with just one win on the road back in August against Concord.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

The Ambers have the slight upper hand in the head-to-head record with five matches between the two teams. Cheshunt have won two, which includes their away win earlier in the season, we have won once back in 2019 and two draws finish the encouters. Having lost to Cheshunt earlier on, Margate will be looking to split the series this season and will be out to avenge that loss at Hartsdown Park with a win at Theobalds Lane.
