Dorking Wanderers

By Ryan Day

Margate travel to Surrey on Tuesday evening as they face highly rated Dorking Wanderers at their brand new Meadowbank Stadium for the Blues first away game of the 2018/19 Bostik Premier campaign.

The ‘Gate had the perfect start to the new season on Saturday as they blew newly promoted Corinthian Casuals away 5-2 at Hartsdown Park, with Mike Sandmann’s and Steve Brown’s side having a 5-0 advantage at half-time.

Two goals from Alex Brown and one each from Frannie Collin, Baselle Aristride and Tom Wynter gave the hosts an emphatic opening day win which leaves them top of the early league standings.

Management duo Brown and Sandmann handed league debuts to Henry Newcombe, Jack Paxman, Chris Barnard, Kofi Boateng, Joe Taylor and Marshall Wratten, as the new-look side sent the majority of the 510 crowd home happy.

Tuesday night sees The ‘Gate face Dorking Wanderers who many will expect to see at the right end of the table come April 2019, after several high profile arrivals at the club this summer, including former Margate striker Jason Prior who was part of Havant & Waterlooville’s title winning National League South squad last season.

Margate fans making the trip to Surrey will recognise some former faces within the Dorking squad including former Blues Luke Moore and fans' favourite Lewis Taylor.

The Wanderers started their new campaign with a 1-1 draw away at Bishops Stortford on Saturday with Prior netting after three minutes, however they couldn’t hold on and had to share the spoils with their counterparts.

It was one win apiece last season when these two sides met in the league with the ‘Gate winning the early bank holiday Monday clash at Hartsdown Park 1-0, whilst the Wanderers served their revenge on Boxing Day as they comfortably saw off the Blues 4-2 in horrendous weather conditions in Surrey.

Kick off at Meadowbank is 7:45pm and travelling supporters can find the ground address below.
