Blues Battle For Deserved Point
Margate Ladies shared the spoils following an even battle with Sevenoaks Town at Hartsdown Park on Sunday afternoon which finished 1-1.
Following on from last week’s cup elimination, the 'Gate hoped to take away a win in this week’s league fixture but the knocks and tiredness from such a heavy game of football took its toll on the home side.
Although many players were carrying injuries the side started the game with confidence and play was smooth and composed. The 'Gate forced chances on goal a number of times, with Adams hitting the crossbar and Niblett looking hopeful on goal a number of times.
The wind favoured the opposition side throughout the half as Margate looked tired and balls were falling short of the target. The team pushed through and the game remained goalless at half time.
Soon into the second half Sevenoaks town netted the first goal of the game and took the lead with a composed strike.
The 'Gate again showed their resilience and motivation, continuing to drive forward into the opposition third and test the keeper with yet another shot hitting the woodwork. The wind was now in favour of The 'Gate as balls flew beautifully through to the strikers who were ready to pounce on any opportunity.
Late into the second half Margate's determination paid off as a clean strike from Adams 35 yards out saw the ball fly past everyone and nestle into the back of the net.
Despite a few further chances on goal by both teams the scores remained even at the final whistle.
Margate Ladies return to Hartsdown Park next Sunday as they take on 10th place Parkwood in the League.
Kick-off is 2:30pm with free entry for all
