A Great Ten Days For Our Club
They say ten days can be a long time in football, however here at the club it seems to have flown by.
Ten days ago we embarked on a tricky first qualifying round fixture away at Hendon. We all knew that it was a tough fixture to start with in the greatest cup competition in the world, however the boys showed resilience and determination to progress with a 3-2 win.
On Wednesday last week, our attentions turned to our U18’s side who were looking to follow in the footsteps of the men’s senior side in the FA Youth Cup. Again, another tough away fixture at Sittingbourne. Pat Sutcliffe and his side were ruthless, and despite a tough summer with recruitment and departures, the side were incredible to earn a 6-2 away win and set up an tie away to Erith & Belvedere in the next round.
Last Friday night, our U23’s side defeated Faversham U23’s 2-1 at Hartsdown Park to remain unbeaten themselves, whilst ending a strong Faversham sides 100% record in the league.
Salim and his side, again, against a backdrop of a tough summer recruit have shown that perseverance and determination will always shine through.
On Saturday it was back to the senior men’s team, and wearing the new kit in front of 921 fans showed real determination to fight back from 1-0 down to win 2-1. On the pitch it was tough, however the boys were driven on by the incredible support that joined us for our Family Fun Day which was enjoyed by families across Thanet.
Our determination to build the club is as strong as ever, and the foundations we have in place are just those, we now need to build on them.
It is great to finish this article with a big well done to our Women’s side who made it the perfect ten days on Sunday afternoon with a 6-0 victory Maidstone United in the Vitality FA Cup. They will now face Bromleians at Hartsdown Park on Sunday 1st October at 3pm.....we hope you can show them support as we look to reach the third and final qualifying round.
Whilst momentum has a huge part to play in football, we are all acutely aware that we are only as good as our last game, however we as a club should be proud of this past few weeks as it shows promise for all aspects of our great club.
