Pres Impresses In FA Cup Win
Midfielder Lee Prescott made a return to the Margate starting eleven on Saturday afternoon, enjoying a full 90 minutes to help his team progress to the next round of the Emirates FA Cup.
Playing an influential role in the middle of the park, Prescott gave his thoughts following The Gate’s 3-2 victory against Horndean FC.
“It was a good game and a good run out for myself. Against a team like Horndean, they’re always going to sit behind the ball which allowed me and the other midfielders to get on the ball a bit and I enjoyed it.”
Despite a late scare, Prescott felt he and his team-mates deserved their win and to progress in the competition.
“I think in previous games and maybe even last season, we could have thrown that result away and let them get back in to it. But we hung on in there, they did get a bit of a sniff but we got the job done.”
“We dominated the game throughout. They had their chances, we had more and we were confident about going and getting the win. Everyone is enjoying it and buzzing with the win so hopefully we can take that into our next game. “
Handed a starting place by Margate’s management duo, the versatile midfielder admitted he is happy to do whatever job is necessary to help the team.
“I was happy with my performance but it’s all about the team. Where I’ve not been starting lately, starting today and being given a chance, I was happy with how I did. I felt I could get on the ball, especially in the deeper role.”
“In previous teams, I’ve played a deeper role looking to get on the ball and create angles and make the team play.”
“Rogo is normally that deeper role, so if he’s there and I come in, I’ll look to push up. It’s all about where the management wants me to play and I’ll do the best job I can with the tactics they want me to play.”
With the season in full swing, Prescott admitted keeping the tight-knit squad fit and together will be important as the fixtures continue to come in thick and fast.
“We want to go as far as we can in the FA Cup. The League is very important to us and we’ve got a small squad which we need to keep fit and not get injured like what’s happened today with Browny which is disappointing.”
“But as long as we’re in this draw there’s a good buzz around the club to enjoy.”
