Cheshunt (A) - 13th February 2024

By Josh Cole

The biggest game of the season is up next for the ‘Gate as we face a trip to play Cheshunt who sit just once place above us.

Last time out, we were denied a precious point away at 2nd placed Chatham. Read the match report by clicking here.

Sam Blackman is ‘touch and go’ whether he can play in this massive fixture with Stimmo hoping to have his captain back.

OPPONENTS SEASON SO FAR:

Cheshunt sit in 18th place, just above the ‘Gate by one point with 23 points from 27 games. Coming down from the league above, Cheshunt had a mediocre start to the season with one draw, two losses and a win against us at Hartsdown Park 1-2. Inconsistent form has been a massive part of The Ambers season as two losses followed their win at HDP before they beat Bognor at home 3-1. A loss to Cray Wanderers and a win against Dulwich in their next two games cemented Cheshunt in the lower half of midtable. A winless run of five games came next (three losses and two draws) including a 0-6 drubbing at home to Hornchurch put Cheshunt on the backfoot. A crucial 5-4 win against fellow strugglers Kingstonian gave them some hope, and they continued to push on with a 1-1 draw against Hashtag and a 1-4 away win vs Carshalton Athletic. Since that win, they have lost their next five games in the league. They broke that losing streak with a home win against Whitehawk but went straight back to losing three games in a row before their last result which was a draw away at Bognor Regis.

Cheshunt have struggled at home in the league, sitting 19th with just four wins in front of their own fans all season. Following the defeat against Chatham, we continue to have only won once away from home all season.

HEAD-TO-HEAD:

The Ambers have the slight upper hand in the head-to-head record with five matches between the two teams. Cheshunt have won two, which includes their away win earlier in the season, we have won once back in 2019 and two draws finish the encounters. Having lost to Cheshunt earlier on, Margate will be looking to split the series this season and will be out to avenge that loss at Hartsdown Park with a win at Theobalds Lane.
