Gate Record Back To Back Wins

Gate Record Back To Back Wins

By Tom Morris

The ‘Gate recorded back to back home victories as an early Kadell Daniel strike saw off a spirited Wingate & Finchley side.

Under the floodlights for the final mid-week game of the season at HDP it was our opponents from North London who started the brighter.

Tupper had to be alert early on, as Cotter and Evans had shots on target but he was equal to them both. At the other end Elliott Reeves tricked the ball past his marker and set off towards goal but a great recovery tackle from Farrell prevented the Gate striker from getting his shot off.

Back from suspension, Daniel was up to his usual tricks and found space in the 23rd and 26th minutes but on both occasions, he was quickly closed down by the Wingate & Finchley defenders.

However, on the 24th minute he got his ninth league goal of the season collecting the ball after Gore had saved from Reeves and firing the ball home to give the ‘Gate an early advantage.

Daniel, Robins and Sessegnon linked up well in the 31st minute but the latter’s cross was collected at the near post. Sessegnon was getting forward well and saw two further crosses narrowly miss Reeves in the box before the half was out.

At the other end, Ifil attempted a shot from range that had Tupper scrambling, but his effort went wide of the post. 1-0 Margate at the break.

The second half started with our visitors dominating the ball and creating a number of half chances; Tupper was quickest to the ball in the 47th minute coming off his line to collect a through pass and then pulled off an incredible save in the 52nd minute keeping a back post header out of his net with an acrobatic save!

We probably should have doubled our lead in the 65th minute as Daniel set Richards away in the box, his shot was well saved by Gore but fell to Ramadan at the back post where, with the goal to aim for, he side footed the ball over the bar!

Moments later Jordy Robins broke from a Wingate corner, ran the length of the pitch and saw his deflected shot saved by Gore.

As the game moved into the final 15 minutes, Jay sent on Michael Abnett for Adem Ramadan and his defensive qualities were put to good use as Wingate went on the offensive.

Their best chance came in the 93rd minute when Gore went up for a corner, Tupper missed the ball and Sessegnon made a goal line clearance.

Our clean sheet intact, referee Kane Dempster blew his whistle and the game was over, 3 more valuable points secured by jay and the players.

Margate: Tupper, Sessegnon, Porter, Prestedge ©, Johnson, Friend, Richards, Robins, Reeves, Daniel, Ramadan (Abnett 73”)
