U23's Move Up To Second
By Paul Meade
Margate U23's continued their impressive unbeaten run with a commanding victory at a very wet and windy Winch’s Field on Monday evening.
With the wind behind them in the first half and applying pressure on the home defence they were rewarded in the 18th minute after another fine attacking performance from Iman Allam after a Tristan Holden through ball resulted in him being brought down inside The Bay penalty area.
Nathan Geddes stepped up and Cooly drove home for a deserved lead. Chances were being created easily, but headers from Reece Greig and shots from Fin Saunders and Allam could not find a second before half time.
The second half was a continuation from the first with constant pressure from Margate. Saunders was now being more involved down the left wing.
It was a brilliant strong challenge from Kodie Bristow that allowed the perfect through ball from Jamie Summers to Saunders that led to his low hard drive across the box found the unmarked Greig at the far post to tap in, ultimately killing the game off in the 79th minute.
Once again Margate’s defence of Tom Handley, Louis Reavill, Nathan Geddes and Connor Wardle were outstanding along with young ‘keeper Blake Page in keeping a clean sheet.
Manager Tur Hoxha post-match comments.
“Very happy with the win of course. The boys have been on a fantastic run, and they finished 2024 in very good form playing some really good football, most importantly team are developing every week.
“That showed tonight in very windy conditions we still managed to play football in the way we have been playing lately, so credit to the lads.
