The 25-year-old joins The Gate having played for Isthmian League side Bognor Regis Town last season. Cooney featured in a behind closed doors trial match against Bearsted FC on Saturday afternoon.
Manager Jay Saunders has now secured his services for the upcoming 2020/21 campaign.
