MATCH PREVIEW / Academy Students Leave for University
Academy Students Leave for University
Academic results across the Margate FC Academy for 2018/19 were superb, bypassing benchmarks and allowing students to move forward to their chosen destination.
Margate FC Academy graduates move on via many different routes, some go directly into full time work, some apprenticeships, others scholarships and for many university is the focus.
One academy graduate, Tom Webster, joined the academy to develop his football but also to open doors to university. Tom, who has been a Margate player for many years, coming up through the youth section, completed a Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma. He achieved a grade D*DD and from that secured a place at John Moores University in Liverpool. Tom will be studying at one of the best university in the country, with superb networking opportunities with various pro clubs based in that part of the country.
Tom is not the only student moving on to university, Louis Shephard secured a place a Bournemouth University, where he will study psychology. Whilst Harrison Copley will be moving on to the University of Kent to study Sport Management.
Gabe Harrison is another student with many options. He impressed various coaches in the states after taking part in a showcase game, this was through our partners Sports Recruiting USA. Gabe has various scholarship offers in the US, including Universities in Maine, Ohio, Alabama and California. Gabe has decided to defer these offers for one year, whilst he has a year out.
As the new cohort of academy students start this month, we have high hope for the new recruits! We do have two places remaining this year for students in either 12, 13 or 14, so if you have started your programme and feel you have made the wrong choice please get in touch via footballacademy@hernebayhigh.org.
