Team News

Margate have added three new signings to their squad ahead of the season opener against Brightlingsea Regent. Chris Sessegnon, Giani Ashley and Harrison Pont all agreed deals ahead of the opener. Manager Jay Saunders has injury concerns over Michael Abnett, otherwise he will have a full squad to choose from as Margate look to continue their form which saw them win six of their seven pre-season games.

Brightlingsea Regent also added new additions in the build up to their league opener. Manager Tom Rothery added Joe Yaxley and Charlie Lindoe. Rothery will be looking for his new additions to inspire Regent who won just one of their pre-season fixtures.

Manager Comments

Jay Saunders – “We’ve had a good pre-season and it’s nice to have a home game to start as we try to get the first three points as early as possible. It’s nice that we can focus on a home start during pre-season rather than thinking we’ve got a tough away trip – not that I’m saying that Brightlingsea are going to be easy.”

“We all like home advantage opening day – we’ve had a lot of home games in the warm up that were arranged when I wasn’t here. We’ve had a good record so here’s hoping that we can take that forward into the League”.

Previous Encounters

This fixture last season saw Jay Saunders enjoy his first three points as Margate Manager in just his second game in charge. A Ben Swift header in the first half was enough to earn Margate a 1-0 win, their first win in thirteen games at the time in February. In the reverse fixture, the ‘Gate claimed an impressive 3-0 victory in the August sunshine.

Saturday's game will be the fifth competitive fixture between these two sides, with Margate winning all previous four games. In those four games, the Blues have netted nine times and conceded just twice.
