Margate Narrowly Miss Out On Three Points
By Tommy park
Margate played away on Saturday against Haringey Borough in the Isthmian League Premier Division.
The Blues had a whirlwind day on saturday going 1-0 down in the 38th minute when Haringey forward Mcdonald ran onto a long ball and smashed it in.
Margate had some close chances in the first half and the hosts also came close but overall the first half was split as both teams were really looking to establish themselves and get ahead. The hosts were ahead however, leading 1-0 going into half time.
The Blues would have some great chances in the second half, first of these coming from Ben Swift who gets his head onto the cross from a corner but he headed it just wide. Ryan Palmer would also come close to bringing Margate back into the match in the 63rd when he cut inside from the left but his shot was turned around the post by the Haringey keeper.
Margate would finally be rewarded for keeping up the pressure when in the 79th minute Lewis Knight got on the end of Ben Greenhalghs corner at the far post and hit it home.
Margate would take the lead in the 4th minute of injury time when Greenhalgh took a shot that came off a defender's head as he attempted to clear it, but the ball ended up in the back of the net.
The hosts however were not prepared to lose this match and in the very last seconds of the game Haringey equalised when Georgiou hit home.
