Lema: "Momentum is key"

Lema: "Momentum is key"

Margate Defender Crossley Lema says “there is a good feeling” within the squad, after the Blues made it nine unbeaten in all competitions after a 2-1 away win at Brightlingsea Regent on Saturday.

Lema played as a make shift centre-half from his usual full-back position due to injuries, but scored what turned out to be the winner in the 50th minute as his fierce shot gave the ‘Gate a 2-1 lead.

“A goal and a win, I can’t ask for much more. There is a really good feeling in the squad and we want to just keep this momentum going forward”.

Usually at right-back for the Blues, Lema partnered Ben Swift at centre-half due to Lewis Knight being missing through injury, but the former Leatherhead man said it doesn’t bother him being shifted along the back-line.

“It doesn’t bother me as it helps the team. I just try to keep defending like I always do. I might have to concentrate a bit more when at centre-half but when you have someone like Ben (Swift) next to you, you feel more comfortable”.

Lema has played his role in an incredible defensive display over the past six weeks which has seen Margate only concede one league goal in their last six games, and Lema says he is “proud” to be a part of this current Margate back-line.

“I am very proud to be in this back four, five when you include Ben in goal. We play well together. You know what you are going to get from Swifty and Knighty in the middle and we all work well together”.

The Blues are now unbeaten in nine games in all competitions and Lema thinks the club’s current momentum could set up an interesting end to the season.

“We will always focus on one game at a time, but momentum at the business end of the season plays a big part as there are teams fighting for their lives and teams scrapping to get promoted, so having momentum is key”.

“We would love to just keep this run going and sneak in to the play-offs at the last minute and go into them with the form behind us”.

Tuesday night sees Carshalton Athletic travel to Hartsdown Park for a Velocity Trophy Quarter-Final, and Lema is adamant that progress to the Semi-Finals will be the only thing on the players’ minds.

“We take every game as seriously as a league game. We want to progress and that will be the aim on Tuesday evening. We have a few knocks, but I know we will go strong as we can and hopefully make the last four, and then hopefully go all the way and win it”.

Crossley Lema is sponsored both Home and Away by Terry Scott this season.
