Swift enjoys FA Cup debut

Having enjoyed his first 90 minutes of the season and debut in the FA Cup, the centre-back was pleased with a great day all around.

Speaking after the game, Swift said:

“It feels good to be back out there, the boys have been doing well so it was nice to play my first 90 and my first game in the FA Cup as well.”

Reflecting on the 90 minutes, Swift was pleased the team were able to work on some areas and manage the game with precision.

“We have a thing about starting second halves a bit slow. We took control of the game today and tried to calm it down. We created lots of chances and maybe should have had a few more goals.”

“The goal we conceded was pretty harsh, I’ve just turned around and the referee has seen something and given the penalty but they do get given and you have to get on with it.”

For a young player, Swift displays maturity beyond his years both on and off the pitch and has a measured approach towards his personal ambitions for the season.

“I want to play as many games as I can, I want to help the team get promotion and get as far as we can in the FA Cup. A good run in the competition would be great for the club and our main aim is to try and get promotion and win as many games as we can along the way.”

And Swift is enjoying every moment at The Gate, utilising the experience of players around him and the management team to perfect his craft.

“I’m learning loads, especially with Watty and Browny as ex-centre halves, I can learn so much from them individually. I love being here and it’s a great set –up.”

Swift also applauded the impact of the fans, who turned up in their droves for the early round Cup tie.

“It’s good to have the fans on board and we try our best to make them happy when they come down here to watch us play. The more we win, the more people we hope to get down.”

Looking ahead to Monday’s cup draw, Swift said, “It’s still early doors and we’ve got a few games to go until the big teams get in the mix.”

But, he did admit if the Gate could get a run in the competition….

“It would be nice to get Maidstone, wouldn’t it?”
