Johnson: "Can't Wait" To Get Started

Johnson: "Can

Written by Josh Cole

New signing Archie Johnson says he “can’t wait to get going” after joining from Beckenham Town and says he is going to “relish” his opportunity to play at Hartsdown Park this season.

Johnson become Reece Prestedge’s latest summer signing and he is looking forward to the challenge ahead.

“It’s a great opportunity, I’ve heard a lot of things about the club, I’ve spoken to Prez (Reece Prestedge) on a couple of occasions. Margate looks like it’s going in a good direction and after meeting the boys it seems like a great place to be and I’m going to relish the opportunity at a big club like Margate.”

Johnson says that he has known past players that have played for the Blues and said that he knows the fans are “top notch” from people he has spoken to, and that is why he was keen to join the ‘Gate this summer.

“There was a number of reasons, I’ve known past players that have played for Margate, and they’ve always said that the fans are top notch, everyone from the staff to behind the scenes are all wonderful people but I think the main opportunity was to come and play at a higher level of football after spending four years at Beckenham, it’s now time to push myself.”

The left-back was a key player for Beckenham last year scooping up Players’ player, Supporters Player, Managers Player, and was included in the Isthmian South-East Team of the Season and he aims to carry the “momentum” from last season into the new one.

“My aim is to carry on the momentum from last season into tis new one and help propel the club to push on for greater things, and with the squad around me I believe we can do this and achieve great things together.”

Johnson appeared in the open training session on Saturday 1st July and after meeting his new team mates he was relieved to have a ball at his feet as the Blues prepare for their opening pre-season friendly against Deal Town this Saturday at Hartsdown Park.

“It was a great session, it was good to meet all the boys, good to get a ball at my feet, all the boys are great, they’ve all been very welcoming to me so far and I can’t be happier at the moment”.

Archie is sponsored Home and Away for the 2023/24 season by David Payne.
