INTERVIEW / Blackman Excited For Cup Game
Blackman Excited For Cup Game
By Ryan Day
Margate Midfielder Sam Blackman says the clubs solid start in the Isthmian Premier League counts for nothing as they prepare to face Southern League Central Division One side Thame United in the 1st Qualifying Round of the Emirates FA Cup.
“It has been a very good start to the season but Saturday is a another game. The FA Cup is special, the fans love it and it gives us an opportunity to perhaps draw some teams that we might not usually play”.
Blackman featured at Wembley for Concord Rangers as part of their delayed FA Trophy run from two seasons ago, and whilst a run to Wembley in the FA Cup is unlikely, Blackman recognises the importance of the competition.
“The FA Cup is great. I have had a good few cup runs and it can really change the dynamic of a club at this level. It is a great competition and we are looking forward to it”.
Thame United are the visitors to Hartsdown Park on Saturday and despite being a league below the ‘Gate and having endured a poor start to the season, Blackman says Margate must be wary of Saturdays opposition.
“These teams are the ones you have to be careful of. They will have their tails up and be looking to cause an upset so we’ve got to be up for it and we all know that anyone can beat anyone in the FA Cup”.
The Midfielder returned to Hartsdown Park this summer and admits he loves playing for the Blues.
“I really enjoyed my time here last time and now I am really enjoying this time under Jay and we have a good group of players and hopefully we can achieve something here this season”.
Sam Blackman is kindly sponsored this season by David and Lesley Swinnock.
