U23's Continue Winning Start
By Paul Meade
Margate U23’s continued their impressive start to the SCEFL Development League with another 2-0 win on the road, this time away to Larkfield and Hythe on Thursday evening.
The young ‘Gate side started and finished this game very confidently and if not for some excellent saves from the opposition keeper and missed opportunities it would have been a larger margin of victory.
It was a brace from central midfielder Reece Greig scoring both goals in the first half on 17 minute and 35 minutes that ultimately won this game, but there were many more scoring opportunities created from a lively and energetic Vinny Bowman, Gabriel Duo, Kodie Bristow and Loui Hoxha.
The second half started a little more inconsistent with both teams struggling to maintain possession, but it was Margate that always seemed to be displaying more control and the defensive unit once again, for the second week running, kept a clean sheet denying what little chances were created by the hosts.
Young midfielder Hoxha, alongside Greig were instrumental in many of the ‘Gate’s attacking options creating late chances for Liam Wilson, Bristow and Danny Martin.
Overall despite only scoring two goals this was a comfortable win and another excellent clean sheet now not conceding in two tricky away games.
The side return to SCEFL Development League action on Friday 8th September 2023 as they welcome Faversham Town U23’s to Hartsdown Park with kick-off scheduled for 7:45pm.
