Billericay Hold Blues To Draw
Margate battled for a hard fought point at Hartsdown Park on Friday night as they drew 0-0 with Billericay Town to make it seven games unbeaten in all competitions.
New loan signing David Smith started on the bench for the ‘Gate as Korrey Henry looked to build on his goal at Bishop’s Stortford, however it was the visitors that started stronger at a blustery Hartsdown Park.
Margate had ‘keeper Daniel Jinadu to thank for not going behind in the 19th minute as Chris Dickson forced a great save from the young ‘keeper as the Blues struggled in the wind. The visitors continued to pepper the Margate goal as Jinadu once again pulled off a magnificent save to leave the scores level at 0-0.
The ‘Gate had to wait until the 37th minute for their first opportunity as Ben Greenhalgh swung a delivery in which was headed just over by Peter Ojemen.
The home sides best chance of the game came in the 52nd minute as Greenhalgh delivered into Cameron Brodie looked to poke the ball home, only for the linesman’s flag to be raised for offside.
The game was halted for several minutes as Blues defender Taylor Fisher was taken to hospital with a suspected fractured collarbone in a 50-50 challenge. Manager Andy Drury introduced new striker David Smith in the 69th minute, however it was the visitors that should have gone in front as Margate miraculously blocked six gaol bound efforts back to back to keep the visitors at bay.
The visitors had three more shots before the full time whistle which were either saved by Jinadu, or blocked by more heroic defending as the ‘Gate held on for a well-deserved point.
