Margate Ladies progressed into round three of the SECWFL League Cup after beating Premier League opposition Bexhill Utd 1-0 at Hartsdown Park on Sunday.

Margate started well, confidently knocking the ball around and it only took four minutes for the impressive Harriet Woolston to break the deadlock, as she latched onto a through ball and calmly slotted past the keeper.

Somehow the score stayed 1-0 by the break with Woolston, Amy Robinson and Nicole Adams all missing good chances to increase the lead.

The Blues back four of Livvy Godden,Becks Slevin,Hannah Russell and player of the match, Shannon King, were unflappable and helped by Lauren Watson between the sticks, never looked liked conceding and really deserved their clean sheet.

At the business end, Wiktoria Bukowska, Grace Phillips-James and Megan Longden were all thwarted by the visiting keeper, along with the woodwork denying Woolston from putting this game to bed.

Bexhill's players became frustrated towards the end when it looked like the lower league team were likely to win and a few of their players could have been a little more gracious in defeat.

Referee Derek McCamley was superb throughout and halted any of the nonsense before it could escalate or take the shine off another superb Margate victory.

Second half subs Izzy Robinson, Chisom Agbenelo and Annabel Ashby all played a part in this team win as the Bluebirds march on into the next round.
