'Gate Defeated By Chats

Margate fell to another pre-season defeat on Tuesday evening as they were beaten 2-0 by Chatham Town at the Bauville Stadium.

Manager Andy Drury gave a debut to new goalkeeper Amadou Tangara after he completed his move to the Blues, but Drury was without Taylor Fisher, Peter Ojemen and Harrison Hatfull through injury.

The Blues got off to a miserable start as they fell behind within five minutes as Chatham Midfielder Ogunseye cut in from the right hand side before firing a low shot past Tangara at the near post.

In an otherwise very dour first half, Margate created half chances with Ben Greenhalgh and Kieron McCann firing weak shot goalwards as the Blues went in 1-0 down at half-time.

The ‘Gate showed some extra fight at the start of the second half as they forced several corners and free-kicks, however they had to wait until the 53rd minute to create their first meaningful chance as good work down the right from Troy Howard, saw him pull the ball across to Emmanuel Oluwesemo who failed to convert the chance.

The ‘Gate almost fell two goals behind on the hour mark as Chatham released a striker one on one with Tangara who stood tall to deny the striker and keep the score at 1-0.

The Blues failed to create any further chances despite some changes, and fell 2-0 down in the 84th minute as Oloyede rose highest to nod home a corner at the far post to secure the win for Chatham.

Margate return to pre-season action on Friday evening as they travel to Isthmian South-East Division side Sittingbourne.

Kick-off is at 7:45pm.
