Battle of the Beaches as Margate FC Women face Herne Bay Women in the FA Cup First Qualifying Round!

Despite playing one tier below their opponents in the league structure, Margate, will be aiming to make a statement against their higher-ranked rivals, Herne Bay, who compete in tier six in a match which has been branded ‘battle of the beaches’.

Margate FC Women are coming off the back of a successful 2023/24 season that saw them secure a solid top three finish, fuelling their ambitions for promotion and potential silverware this coming season. The club has been proactive in their preparations, with a strong pre-season characterised by positive results and promising recruitment.

This match also marks the debut of new head coach George Adams, who has been working hard with his squad to implement his tactical vision and build on the team’s strengths. Adams will be eager to start his tenure with a positive result in what will be a significant test of his team's capabilities. Adding to the coaching team today is first team coach Will O'Keefe, and John Huffman, who joins as the new first aider and welfare advisor, ensuring the team is well-supported on and off the field.

Margate's squad today features three youth graduates, reflecting the club's commitment to developing homegrown talent. Additionally, one U18 player is stepping up to make her debut in the first team, a testament to the club's thriving youth setup. With two new signings also expected to make their debut, the lineup combines a mix of youthful exuberance and experience, which could be pivotal in their quest for victory.

Herne Bay Women, playing a league above in tier six, have also had a productive pre-season and come into this match with a couple of competitive fixtures already under their belt. Having won one and lost one of their opening league matches, Herne Bay will be looking to build momentum in the cup. Their experience at a higher level could provide an edge, but they will need to be wary of a motivated Margate side eager to cause an upset.

While Herne Bay might be seen as slight favourites due to their higher league status, the game is expected to be closely contested. Margate's pre-season form and strong recruitment indicate that they are more than capable of competing with teams from higher divisions. Margate will look to leverage their recent positive momentum, and the fresh energy brought by their new coach and signings, while Herne Bay will aim to demonstrate their superior league experience.

Kick-off is scheduled for 3:30 PM at the MBS Stadium. Entry prices are set at £4 for adults, £2 for concessions, and U16s are admitted free with a paying adult. With an exciting cup tie on the cards, fans are encouraged to come out and support their teams in what should be a fantastic showcase of women’s football.

With the stakes high and a spot in the next round of the FA Cup on the line, both Margate FC Women and Herne Bay Women will be eager to put in strong performances.
