Millwall Lionesses (A) -22nd October 2023

By David Hansen

Sunday afternoon sees the Margate Women travel to Greater London as they look for a place in the 1st round proper of the FA Cup for the first time in their history as they take on the Millwall Lionesses at St Pauls Sports ground.

Margate come into this FA Cup tie on the back of successive home victories in the FA Cup and League Cup, as they booked their place in the 3rd qualifying round by beating Bromleians 7-1 at Hartsdown Park and advanced in the League Cup as they beat Baypoint 8-1 also at Hartsdown Park.

The hosts come into this game on the back of three consecutive wins in the cup, where they beat Regents Park Rangers 11-0, beating Aylesford 8-0 and finally most recently beating Ashford 3-2 last Sunday.

Millwall play their football in the London & Southeast regional football league Premier Division which on the women's football pyramid is tier five, whereas Margate play their football in the Southeast Counties women's football league, which is tier seven on the pyramid.

Team News:

Team news remains largely the same from last week's win with the only notably differences being a potential debut for two new players in the forms of Katy Hyde who joins the club from Betteshanger, and a potential debut for Emily Hill as manager Steph Meek looks to bolster her squad ahead of this history making fixture.

The match will be played at the home of Fisher FC at the St Pauls Sports Ground in London on the bank of the Thames with Kick-Off Scheduled for 1:30pm.

Tickets for the match are £5 for adults, £2 for 12-15 and under 11s are free with a paying adult.

Women Bow Out of FA Cup

Margate Women bowed out of this year’s Vitality Women’s FA Cup on Sunday afternoon as they were defeated 13-0 by Millwall Lionesses at St Pauls Sports Ground on Sunday afternoon.

It was always going to be a tough ask against a side two divisions above, however Steph Meek’s side were unable to match their opposition as they exited the competition.

Full match report to follow.
