'Gate Continue League Run With Thumping Win
Margate moved up to 3rd in the Bostik Premier League with a convincing 4-0 thrashing of Harrow Borough at Earlsmead on a drizzly afternoon in North London.
Manager Steve Watt reintroduced Dave Martin to the line up in place of Aaron Simpson as the Blues looked to make it six unbeaten in the league.
The ‘Gate got off to the perfect start as Jordan Chiedozie raced through before being tripped in the box to earn the Blues a third minute penalty which the prolific striker tucked away in the bottom corner to give the ‘Gate an early advantage.
The game was turned on its head in the 36th minute as Harrow were reduced to ten men as Mark Mcleod was sent straight off for what appeared to be an elbow to the face of Frannie Collin.
Harrow offered very little going forward even with former Gate striker Ryan Moss in their ranks and it was 2-0 soon after as the ball worked its way to Kane Haysman who rifled the ball in the far corner to extend their advantage in the 39th minute.
Two goals and a red card effectively ended this fixture at half time, but the Blues increased their lead even further in the 47th minute with a finely worked goal which saw Haysman lay the ball off to Collin who despatched a beautiful strike into the bottom corner to make it 3-0.
Margate made it 4-0 soon after as Dave Martin rolled the ball across the box for Chiedozie who notched his 27th goal of the season in all competitions which moved the Blues up to 3rd in the table.
The ‘Gate had several other chances to extend their lead further but some superb goalkeeping from Melvin Minter denied the away side further goals with Chiedozie, Jay May and Tom Wynter all being denied.
Margate return to action this evening (Monday) as they face Kingstonian at the home of Leatherhead FC with kick off at 7:45pm.
