MATCH REPORT / Gate Beaten In Seven Goal Thriller
The Blues were ahead after five minutes as Claudio Vilcu poked home into his own net after a low cross from Kane Haysman caught him on his heels.
The ‘Gate were further ahead in the 44th minute as the referee awarded the home side a penalty which Jordan Chiedozie duly dispatched to make it 2-0.
The visitors reduced the arrears in the 45th minute as Rob Laney saw his effort deflect in off Marc Charles Smith who appeared to be offside but the goal stood.
The visitors were level early in the second half as Laney was left free at the back post to make it 2-2. The visitors staged the most remarkable comeback in the 64th minute as Laney was left unmarked to head home his second and put Wingate ahead.
They extended their lead in the closing stages as Ifil waltzed past two ‘Gate defenders to make it 4-2 in the closing minutes. The visitors then were reduced to 9 men as Ahmed Rifat and Claudio Vilcu were sent from the field of play for dissent.
The Blues did reduce the arrears to 4-3 thanks to another Chiedozie penalty but it was the visitors who took the point’s home with them.
