Chiedozie Treble Sinks Needham Market
Margate secured their first win of 2018 with a fine 3-1 victory over Needham Market at Hartsdown Park which kept them fully in the race for a play-off place in the Bostik Premier League.
Manager Steve Watt named exactly the same side that drew at Billericay Town and it proved fruitful as the Blues dominated the game from start to finish with Jordan Chiedozie netting a hat-trick as the Blues remained 8th in the Bostik League standings.
It was the visitors who had the first chance as Jamie Griffiths struck a shot straight at Sam Sargeant in the ‘Gate goal but then it was the home side who kicked into action and controlled the first half. Kane Haysman almost opened the goal scoring as he saw his header fly inches over the bar.
The Blues were ahead on 20 minutes as Chiedozie guided the ball home with his head from a delightful Haysman cross for Chiedozie’s 19th goal of the season in all competitions.
Both Frannie Collin and Chiedozie continued to cause problems for the Needham back line but they couldn’t extend their lead any further before the break and the ‘Gate had Sargeant to thank for remaining ahead at half-time as he saved a superb Gareth Heath free kick.
The second half started in a similar fashion as to the first with Sargeant again making two superb fingertip saves to deny Griffiths as the visitors looked likely to level, however three minutes after Sargeant’s heroics Chiedozie doubled the ‘Gate’s lead with a low fierce shot which nestled in the bottom corner.
Two was to become three just minutes later as Collin calmly rolled the ball across the box for Chiedozie who simply tapped home his third goal of the evening taking away the Matchball as Margate extended their lead to 3-0.
Needham Market were awarded a penalty in the 70th minute as Liam Friend was adjudged to have fouled Griffiths in the box and centre half Daniel Morphew superbly struck the ball home from 12 yards to reduce the score to 3-1 but the ‘Gate weren’t to let it ruin their evening as they held out for a much deserved 3-1 victory.
